Great news….

CSTOCK will be represented in the AACT Western regional (4 state) community theatre competition in 2009.“The Musical of Musicals” will be directed by Trina Williamson and music directed by Daryl Spadaccini.

The play is a ‘what if’ 5 different composers had written music for the same skit. Four actors and a pianist get onstage and show all 5 versions in succession.

The directors will be looking for 2 women (1 soprano  - combo ditzy diva, 1 mezzo/belter -good comedienne) and 2 men (1 bass/baritone - the bad guy, 1 baritone/2nd tenor - the romantic lead & goofball) for this very fun show. We won’t be able to do the entire play for the competition but we’ll be able to perform it in its entirety at CSTOCK at least twice just prior to competition.  If we win,  our production would go to the national competition in June 2009 (in of all places, Tacoma!!!).

If you’re interested in auditioning, please let the director know (info below). Auditions will hopefully be held in July or August. So…. do you like a challenge? Think you’ve got the right stuff?  We ask that all actors be at least 17 years old and have the ability to learn independently due to the short rehearsal period.  Actors must have strong singing voices, be physically agile (you do a lot of moving!) and have good comedic timing.

In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about the show go to the Musical of Musicals website or go to Wikipedia. The CD is available for purchase on their site, on Amazon.com and at the itunes store website.

Auditions/Info for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer!

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is the familiar Mark Twain story of Tom,
Huck, Becky Thatcher and the residents of Hannibal, MO. Whitewashing the
fence, cutting up in school, hiding in the cave from Injun Joe — it’s
all here. This version opened on Broadway in 2001 with music is by Don
Schlitz who has written award-winning hits for the likes of Kenny
Rogers, Mary-Chapin Carpenter and Randy Travis. Suitable for all ages,
it’s not just a musical, it’s an adventure story right from the pages of
literature.
Auditions open to ages 10 and older:
Saturday, July 19th 10-4
Sunday,  July 20th 12-4
(Auditions July 12th 10am-12 noon by appointment only. Call 360-297-0848.)
Prepare a song under 2 minutes. Bring CD accompaniment or sheet music
for the pianist. Be prepared to read from the script. Dancers welcome,
but dance audition not required. Youth and teens will be asked to
perform improvisations. Wear comfortable clothing that allows movement.
Parts for 14-16 children/teens, 14-15 adults. Rehearsals will begin July
23rd. Performances run September 19 - October 12, 2008.

Any further questions may be directed to Gwen Adams at 297-0848.

I am just wondering if you have a favorite role that you haven’t had an opportunity to play yet. I have been lucky enough to have played characters that became ‘dream roles’ after I started rehearsing for the production and I’ve had a few roles that I was dying to do luckily earned the opportunity to perform BUT there’s still a handful of roles I’m dying to do!

Kate in ‘Kiss Me Kate’, Kiss Me Kate

Corrine or Hesione in ‘Triumph of Love’ Triumph of Love

Margaret Johnson in ‘ The Light in the Piazza’, Light in the Piazza

Miss Peretti in ‘25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’ Spelling Bee

Mrs. Lovett in ‘Sweeney Todd.’ Sweeney Todd

How about you??? What’s on your short list?

Auditions were held for this summer’s kids production ’The Pirates of Penzance’ over the weekend. We had a terrific turnout of 80 young people between the ages of 8 and 21 and just over half the group of auditioning young people were new to CSTOCK. Wow! The talent was absolutely amazing and we are all waiting with anticipation for director Dan Estes & music director Bob Forman to announce their cast by Wednesday, April 30th.

While I know not everyone will get cast I just wanted to say how talented and brave these kids are! Each kid had to learn a song and sing it by themselves. I’m really proud of everyone who tried out!
