If you didn’t hear the bad news, it’s true. “Rent” was denied. A sad day for many a teenager in Kitsap County as both Andrea and I were very excited to direct what we hoped would be the first production of the school edition in Washington.

Unfortunately, professional productions take precedence over amateur ones and “Rent” has a big national tour coming to Seattle close to the time CSTOCK would’ve been doing it. I know…. you ask why would they care if a group of kids were doing the show? I wish I could answer that question for you, my young friends. But Andrea and I promise we’ll try to get that show into another season if it’s at all possible.

In the meantime, we both decided that “Seussical” was our second show of choice. It’s fun, filled with a lot of great music and characters and we think the audience will love it. If you didn’t know, Andrea had originally planned to do this show back in 2005 but the licencing company yanked it from us as a Seattle based professional theatre chose to do it at the last minute. So in a sense, this is our reward and not just a ‘replacement’ show. We get to do this show with a lot of talented kids, teens and young adults. We think it’ll be awesome!

Well, it’s finally here. It’s closing night for our “kids for kids” production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s ‘The Pirates of Penzance.’ I sincerely hope you’ve had a chance to see it but if not you have ONE MORE chance left!

Sunday’s show starts at 6 pm. Tickets are still available (although they are selling quickly!) online at Brown Paper Tickets. This is the best way to guarantee your tickets!

Doors open at 5:30 pm but get there a little earlier if you’d like to sit closer.

Congrats to the cast and crew for a great show!

Congratulations to the cast of ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’! Directors Gwen Adams, Meredith Ellringer and Christine Usher are looking forward to working with this very talented group of actors!

Great news….

CSTOCK will be represented in the AACT Western regional (4 state) community theatre competition in 2009.“The Musical of Musicals” will be directed by Trina Williamson and music directed by Daryl Spadaccini.

The play is a ‘what if’ 5 different composers had written music for the same skit. Four actors and a pianist get onstage and show all 5 versions in succession.

The directors will be looking for 2 women (1 soprano  - combo ditzy diva, 1 mezzo/belter -good comedienne) and 2 men (1 bass/baritone - the bad guy, 1 baritone/2nd tenor - the romantic lead & goofball) for this very fun show. We won’t be able to do the entire play for the competition but we’ll be able to perform it in its entirety at CSTOCK at least twice just prior to competition.  If we win,  our production would go to the national competition in June 2009 (in of all places, Tacoma!!!).

If you’re interested in auditioning, please let the director know (info below). Auditions will hopefully be held in July or August. So…. do you like a challenge? Think you’ve got the right stuff?  We ask that all actors be at least 17 years old and have the ability to learn independently due to the short rehearsal period.  Actors must have strong singing voices, be physically agile (you do a lot of moving!) and have good comedic timing.

In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about the show go to the Musical of Musicals website or go to Wikipedia. The CD is available for purchase on their site, on Amazon.com and at the itunes store website.

Welcome to summer! (well….I know it’s June but there is no sun as I write this)

We’ve got a lot of activities going on at the theatre. Hopefully you’ll be able to come down and see our kids for kids production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance”!
