Disney's The Jungle Book

I was fortunate enough to get a chance to watch a rehearsal of this year’s Children’s Summer Workshop production (which happens to be ‘The Jungle Book’ if you couldn’t figure it out by the blog title!).

It’s going to be a great show! These 41 kids (between 6-13 years old) are absolutely amazing. There are kids with a lot of stage experience as well as kids with no stage time whatsoever and they are all seamlessly working together and creating a show that will knock your socks off!

I’m really impressed with Andrea and her team of DIT’s. They are doing some amazing work - these kids onstage will be the future of our theatre. And our DITS are our future directors so come on down and support a good cause (CSTOCK is taking donations for the Kitsap Humane Society and for the 4-H Club) as well as see a great show!

Well, it’s finally here. It’s closing night for our “kids for kids” production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s ‘The Pirates of Penzance.’ I sincerely hope you’ve had a chance to see it but if not you have ONE MORE chance left!

Sunday’s show starts at 6 pm. Tickets are still available (although they are selling quickly!) online at Brown Paper Tickets. This is the best way to guarantee your tickets!

Doors open at 5:30 pm but get there a little earlier if you’d like to sit closer.

Congrats to the cast and crew for a great show!

Congratulations to the cast of ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’! Directors Gwen Adams, Meredith Ellringer and Christine Usher are looking forward to working with this very talented group of actors!

Tom Sawyer runs September 19-October 12, 2008. Tickets will be available online in August and the box office will be taking reservations after September 1st.

Great news….

CSTOCK will be represented in the AACT Western regional (4 state) community theatre competition in 2009.“The Musical of Musicals” will be directed by Trina Williamson and music directed by Daryl Spadaccini.

The play is a ‘what if’ 5 different composers had written music for the same skit. Four actors and a pianist get onstage and show all 5 versions in succession.

The directors will be looking for 2 women (1 soprano  - combo ditzy diva, 1 mezzo/belter -good comedienne) and 2 men (1 bass/baritone - the bad guy, 1 baritone/2nd tenor - the romantic lead & goofball) for this very fun show. We won’t be able to do the entire play for the competition but we’ll be able to perform it in its entirety at CSTOCK at least twice just prior to competition.  If we win,  our production would go to the national competition in June 2009 (in of all places, Tacoma!!!).

If you’re interested in auditioning, please let the director know (info below). Auditions will hopefully be held in July or August. So…. do you like a challenge? Think you’ve got the right stuff?  We ask that all actors be at least 17 years old and have the ability to learn independently due to the short rehearsal period.  Actors must have strong singing voices, be physically agile (you do a lot of moving!) and have good comedic timing.

In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about the show go to the Musical of Musicals website or go to Wikipedia. The CD is available for purchase on their site, on Amazon.com and at the itunes store website.

Welcome to summer! (well….I know it’s June but there is no sun as I write this)

We’ve got a lot of activities going on at the theatre. Hopefully you’ll be able to come down and see our kids for kids production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance”! It all started in 3rd grade. I played the part of Casper the Ghost in the school play. A few years later, I was Dick Martin in “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.” After a short respite to play flag football and flirt with the cheerleaders, I had two choices of high school - one that was just down the street, complete with all my pocket protector buddies and straight leg flood pants. The other high, clear across town, held tremendous promise. Know one knew me. I didn’t have to fulfill my longstanding roll of resident dipstick. I could be whatever I wanted to be.

In my freshman year, something possessed me, and I tried out for the school musical, “Carnival,” and was given the lead of Jaquot, the Puppeteer. From there, I played Cornelius Hackl in “Matchmaker,” the non-musical version of “Hello Dolly.” That Summer I did a couple of bit parts in Lil’ Abner, and later played the Scarecrow in “Wizard of Oz” and Sir Harry in “Once Upon a Mattress.” I played Harold Hill in the “Music Man’ and El Gallo in the a “Fantastiks.” My first community theatre was in a production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” where I happily played the spoiled caninie, Snoopy.

In the back of my mind, I had always wanted to find the right time to re-enter the theater fray. And what better venue to do so than with C-STOCK! My first show was “1940’s Radio Hour.” What a truly gifted ensemble we had for that show. It was the perfect choice to bring me back into the fold.

Shortly thereafter, I was asked to participate as a Board Member, a role and responsibility that I take very seriously.

Additional roles thus far has been fairly small, but loads of fun. I was the Coach in “Footloose” and a mentally challlenged stage hand, and the Baseball Commissioner in “Damn Yankees!” I especially enjoy “Damn Yankees” because both of my youngest boys were in the cast as well. We all shared some very meaningful male bonding during rehearsals!

If you’ve never participated in Community Theater, I would implore you to do so. It’s any amazingly rich and satisfying experience, and the people are truly great to work with.

So whether actor, singer, set design, musician, costumes,, etc.. there’s just the perfect place for you!
